Catching up on September

Happy Fall! September seems to have come and gone in a flash! Time flies when you're having fun, right?! It was an awesome month full of reading and learning!

Between Tynker Time, learning to code, a French and Indian war simulation, and other content lessons, our boys and girls have been busy, busy in the Media Center!

Here's a little peek into what we were up to: 

Kindergarten and First Grade students practiced identifying main character, setting, and problem by listening to the story, If You Ever Want to Bring a Circus to the Library, DON'T by Elise Parsley. 

Some of our Second and Third Graders also participated in a Storytime STEM activity with Mrs. O'Brien based on the book, The Day the Crayons Quit. After the story, students were tasked with designing a new and improved crayon box that had the capacity to hold up to 24 crayons. Some of our crayon-box engineers took it to the next level and designed crayon boxes that could hold up to 108 crayons!

Fourth Graders participated in an amazing simulation of the French and Indian War. Students worked in groups of three to represent each of the key players in the war - Native Americans, French Fur Trappers, and the British Settlers. Through game play, students were truly able to grasp an understanding of the causes and effects of the war. Pictures to come soon! 

Fifth Graders continued in their ELA Expeditionary Unit of Study by launching their novel study of Esperanza Rising. 

We also hosted our first Media Center Advisory Committee meeting. We enjoyed being able to come together with our stakeholders to discuss our program and our transition from a Media Center to a Learning Commons.

We're looking forward to another amazing month in the Media Center!
